Fund
Description
The
organizers of the PSR Conference, "Health
Consequences of Global
Warming: Examining the Chains, Breaking the Links" are
pleased to announce the
establishment of a Student PSR
Leadership Fund. The primary purpose of this
fund is to support travel for outstanding PSR student leaders to
important PSR events that
have a national or international scope.
To
start this fund, the Iowa PSR chapter will contribute $300 plus
commit to raising at least an additional $500 in local Iowa donations
to the
fund. These seed funds should support the travel of at least two
medical students who
reside more that 100 miles from Iowa City to the upcoming Health
Consequences of
Global Warming conference.
You can help us
invest in the future by donating now!
Following
the upcoming conference, any remaining funds will be put
under the control of national PSR and Student-PSR for future
Student-PSR
development.
University
of Iowa students are not eligible for this award.
Scholarship
travel awards will generally be limited to $500 per
awardee.
Student Application
Process
An
application process is established with the following requirements:
- Submit a short essay,
one page (250 words) or less
on why the awardee should attend the September 14-16, 2007 PSR Health
Consequences of
Global Warming conference.
- Raise a local
donation of at least $75 locally
(for example, a mentor, local PSR chapter, local county medical
society, other groups that work
on health, human rights, and social justice issues.)
- Make a specific
commitment to deliver a presentation
after the conference on a topic or topics highlighted at the conference
to a venue back home (for
example, local PSR chapter, student group, county medical society, the
local
group that contributed to the awardee's travel, or others.)
- Work with conference
organizers to develop an
appropriate travel budget.
- Submit above
application materials/proposal or questions
