Peace Week, March
24-28, 2008, Iowa City
Around
the country, people are working hard to have
a large turnout in DC on March 19, it is also necessary to be visible
and vocal in our local communities on that day. Congress will not be in
session and so our representatives and senators will be in their home
districts/states. We are aiming to have at least one action in each of
the 435 congressional districts. We encourage those who are not able to
make it to DC on March 19 to organize and participate in local actions.
These events will vary in location and character -- some will be
vigils, others civil disobedience actions, some will be held at
congressional offices, others in town squares -- but they will all be
tied to the actions in Washington and sending the same message to the
policy makers: It is time to end this war and occupation!
Healing Iraq: A Tale of
Two Doctors - March 26th at 7:00pm in
Northwestern Rm. in IMU
We
are showing this award winning documentary, followed by a discussion

war.
Art/Lit Fair - March 28th 1:00pm - 7:00pm in 2nd Floor
Ballroom in
IMU
UIAC is having an Art/Lit Fair for Peace Week where artists "make art
not war". There will be tabling with other student organizations.

Plains Justice
is an environmental justice law center based in Cedar Rapids. Our
founding in 2006 was in part a response to a national rush to build
150+ coal burning power plants, the biggest industrial source of global
warming gases. Forty-two plants have been proposed in the Midwest
alone. We have had some great successes as we challenge proposed
plants in:
Waterloo
and
Marshalltown, Iowa
Big Stone City, South Dakota
Gascoyne and South Hearth, North Dakota
|
| Finding
alternatives to
coal plants means working hard to create solutions. Our new Clean
Energy Ambassador project for example, will help small utilities
improve their bottom line by implementing proven, cost-effective energy
efficiency programs that lower bills. |
This
is a real fight to safeguard our grand children's future.
The health and sustainability of our
communities and our world are at
stake.
Stand with us as we work for truly clean
energy,
not short-sighted fixes with disastrous long-term consequences.

from the

Sponsored by Nuclear Policy Research Institute (NPRI) and Chicago PSR
This video is an indispensable
educational
tool for anyone that wants to learn about nuclear power. The DVD
also
showcases the realistic alternatives to nuclear power, solar and wind,
that
are more efficient, less expensive, and less harmful to the health of
people.
IPSR has reviewed this DVD. It is faithful to the original two-day
symposium
and is a knock-out. It will be perfect for house parties and
showing
before a wide variety of groups. It will stimulate
discussion.
Preview it at our meeting and get your own copy! The DVD can be
